Pete Ferrari, Class of 1974 Pete claims to have been “just an Average Joe” during his days playing football, basketball and baseball at Chesterton High School. Yet, average players don’t earn all-conference honors. He was All-DAC in football, basketball and baseball and honorable mention all-state in basketball. He was named the outstanding senior athlete in 1974. As a senior, Pete torched Portage for 32 points without the benefit of the 3-point shot, which was not yet in the rulebook. He played receiver, defensive back and returned kicks for the football team and was a base-stealing, leadoff-hitting shortstop for the baseball team.
