Connie Hamilton Chesterton High School had just the right person to coach five different sports during the days of the afterthought Girls Athletic Association to make the transition into the IHSAA and the big-time atmospheres afforded teams that as well as some of hers. Connie coached the girls basketball team in the first 13 seasons (1975-1988) that it was an IHSAA sanctioned sport. She compiled a 166-92 record and took her 1981 team to the state final, where the Trojans lost in the morning game, finishing one game short of playing for the title. She coached another big winner in 1986, making it to the semi-state round.. Until current Chesterton volleyball coach Lindsay Nibert’s team won a sectional title in 2024, Hamilton was the only volleyball coach in school history to win a sectional title, achieving the feat in 1977.
