John Knight put the Trojans on his shoulders and carried them to victory over McCutcheon in the first of three games at the Joe Heath Classic in Lafayette on Friday. Knight got his third start on the hill and absolutely shoved on the Mavericks to a tune of 5IP, 7H, R, ER, 2BB, 6K. The Trojans, in their blackout uniforms put their bats to work in this one scoring in five of the seven frames. Chesterton took the lead with two in the second when "Defensive Player of the Game," John Knight((0-3, 2R, BB, 2K) came across on a wild pitch and G Kirkland(1-3, 3R, BB, K) scored when Sully Fleming(0-1, RBI) reached on an error. In the third Eli McClelland(2-5, R, RBI) hit a lead-off knock to left and Kirkland reached on an error. Cam Campbell(0-2, BB) drew a walk to load 'em up for Nate Redman(1-2, R, 2RBI, 2BB). Redman would rope a single to left plating McClelland and Kirkland increasing the lead to four. The fourth Trojan inning saw the sacks packed again after a walk to Troy Barrett(1-2, 2R, BB, K,) and two hit batsmen Caden Hackett(1-3, RBI, K) and Knight. With nowhere to put him, Ethan Glassman(2-4, 3RBI, 2B, K) barreled up a three and one offering to deep right center for a bases clearing two bagger that got Barrett, Knight and Kirkland back in the dugout. The Mavericks would score their only run in the game in the bottom half after a pair of hits and a sac fly to left. Chesterton wasn't done yet and tallied two more in the fifth with two outs. Barrett wore a pitch and scored on a Hackett hustle double to left. Logan Chestovich(R) ran for the Trojan catcher and wouldn't be out there long because hot hitting McClelland promptly drove him in with a good oppo piece. The Trojans tacked on another run in the seventh after loading the bases yet again. With ducks on the pond and one down, Mike Szostek dug in and went to work hitting a sac fly to left on the seventh pitch of his at bat bringing the score to 10-1. Ethan Glassman would be named the "Offensive Player of the Game" after a bunt single and a three run double. Chesterton would stay overnight with a morning contest against Lafayette Jefferson following this late Friday night match up. With the win the record now goes to 4-3 on the season.
