You can call it a streak now that the Trojans Varsity baseball team have now won two straight games after besting the Pirates again yesterday 15-0. Purdue commit, Troy Barrett, took the ball for Chesterton going three full innings, while allowing a lone hit, a walk, but struck out 7 for his second win. Cam Campbell got the call from the pen for a two-inning relief role where he struck out two and did not allow a baserunner. The Trojans only needed two innings to do the necessary damage stopping the game after five innings due to the ten-run advantage after five innings, Mercy Rule. Chesterton would send thirteen batters to the plate in the home half of the first to the tune of nine runs while only recording two hits by Sully Fleming(2-3, 2R, 3RBI, K) and "Defensive Player of the Game," Eli McClelland(1-2, R, RBI, BB). Pirate pitchers walked seven Trojan hitmen after Rob Czarniecki led off with a dropped third strike that went to the back stop allowing him to reach safely. Those receiving a free pass were, Barrett twice(0-0, 3R, RBI, 3BB), Caden Hackett twice(1-1, 3RBI, 2BB, 2B), Ethan Glassman(0-2, R, 2RBI, BB, K), G Kirkland(0-2, 2R, BB), and Czarniecki(1-2, 3R, BB, 2B, K). Those making the outs since I know you're dying to know, were John Knight(0-2, R, 2BB, K) on an infield fly rule where the hitter is automatically out with a flyball to an infielder with runners at first and second and less than two outs. The ball did fall safely back to Earth but Knight was still called out and the runners stayed put. The second out came via a backwards K, not on my keyboard, to Isaiah Prater(0-2, R, K) and Glassman flied out to the left fielder who made a great sliding catch in foul ground to end the inning getting the Sportscenter jingle from the voice of Trojan baseball, Brian Finley. The second inning was more of the same with walks and hits with Hackett doubling to deep left and "Offensive Player of the Game," Sully Fleming collecting his second knock on the warm, breezy day, I'm not going to bore you with who walked and in case you didn't do the math the Trojans totaled six more runs bringing the score to fifteen - love, good guys. Other than a Czarniecki hustle double not much happened in the game other than a Pirate freshman striking out five of the seven stickmen that he faced. The Boys of Summer will be back at it tonight as they take their 3-2 record to Munster where the battle the Mustangs, not real ones it's just a mascot nickname and how would a horse swing a bat anyway. First pitch is slated for 5:00.
