The Chesterton Trojans Varsity baseball squad took some frustrations out on the Merrillville Pirates after a two-loss weekend down south with a beat down of 19-0 on Tuesday. John Knight took the hill and gets to don the coveted "Hard Hat Defensive Player of the Game" helmet one more day after pitching his one hit masterpiece. Knight's stats one the wintry afternoon day were, 4IP, H, 2BB, 5K). Some pretty good numbers for the second year, varsity junior but the real story on the day was the Trojan bats. Rob Czarniecki(3-3, 3R, 3RBI, 2BB, HR, 3B, 2B), who's been like Texas Roadhouse cinnamon butter, on a roll, had to wait 30 minutes before getting any extra base hits because he ate prior to the contest, took a base on balls to lead off the contest. Catcher, Caden Hackett(0-0, 2BB, 2HBP) and tall shortstop, Ethan Glassman(0-1, 2R, RBI, 2BB, HBP) both wore one to fill the bases with good guys. Knight(2-3, 3R, 3RBI, BB) stepped into the box and found some grass in left to plate Troy Barrett(1-5, 3R, BB) which proved to be all the runs Chesterton would need so, THE END. Just kidding, seeing if you were actually reading this one. Eli McCclelland(0-2, R, 2RBI, BB) hit a shot the second baseman couldn't handle allowing pinch runner, Logan Chestovich(1-1, 2R, RBI) and Glassman to score. G Kirkland(0-1, R, 2RBI,3BB), that's not an initial that's what his friends call him, flied to left to allow Knight to tag and score from third, 4-0 Trojans. Sully Fleming(2-3, 2R, 3RBI, BB) took a free 90 and Isaiah Prater(1-3, R, BB) in the ninth spot, grounded out 5-3 to end the inning that sent all starters to the plate. Due to time constraint we will move faster ahead in the action because the grass aint gonna cut itself. Czarniecki and Barrett tripled and doubled respectively in the second frame with Barrett driving in Czarniecki and Glassman brought Barrett home with a sac fly to deep center making it 6-0. In the third Czarniecki doubled to right after a Fleming knock and later scored on a wild pitch bringing the lead to 7-0. The Trojans put up a snowman, not good in golf but great in baseball, as they sent 11 batters to the dish. The damage was done with only three hits including a Czarniecki two-run bomb to left, his second, and knocks by Fleming and Knight. In the final inning, Fleming hit a bases clearing double to right for three ribbies and would later score on a Chestovich knock to left center to round out the football game like scoring at 19-0. The two DAC teams go at it again this afternoon with the Trojans hosting the Pirates at a much warmer Chesterton High School with a start time of 4:30. DAC 1-0 Overall 2-2
