After 13 days off, the Chesterton varsity girls basketball team returned to action at Merrillville on Friday night for a DAC tilt. After a sluggish start, the Trojans took a two-point lead to end the first quarter behind the shooting of Lindsi McGuffey and Novea Brandon. That continued into the second quarter as the Trojans pulled ahead by 8 at half. The lead ballooned up to 20 points in the third quarter before a small run my the Pirates at the end of the game brought it back to a 50-38 victory for Chesterton. Unofficial scoring leaders in the game were McGuffey and Brandon with 18 and 12 points respectively. The team got some nice contributions on the glass from Reese Dilbeck who also scored 7 points of her own. The team is now 12-5 on the year and 4-1 in the DAC. Saturday afternoon is the Salute to Service game as the Trojans host the 12-4 Bronchos from Lafayette Jeff. It's a triple-header with the 9th graders starting at 3:00, followed by JV at 4:00 and varsity at 5:30.
